This summer did not look like what I had planned at all. As some of you may know, I love traveling. It’s such a great way to detox from life. However, with everything going on, putting travel on hold seemed like the safest thing at the moment.
However, I was curious if there might be somewhere that I could go to that would not be unsafe for staying but also feel like a vacation. (I was even tempted to simply drive somewhere and stay in my car, lol.) An ad kept popping up on my Instagram feed for a place called Getaway. They were these little one room cabins in remote areas nestled in mountainous areas around the country.
It was perfect! With COVID, they had upped their cleaning routine, so the cabins were thoroughly sanitized from top to bottom. I could not have been more thrilled. And with, because they are known for being a ‘getaway’, each cabin is a nice distance from the others.
As soon as I walked in, I felt like I had entered a little home. The kitchen was perfectly organized and fully stocked with everything I needed for cooking. And the smell was so nice. I don’t know if any of you feel this way, but there is nothing better smelling to me than pine. The wood smell made everything feel so much more authentic.
The bathroom was fully stocked with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, all of which smelled amazing and was one less thing I had to pack. There are also towels and toilet paper, so you are completely set.
Another perk is not having any wifi; so basically, you are forced to unplug from reality and just relax!
I unpacked and did nothing for the entire time I was there! It was so nice to not have to connect with anyone or plan anything of significance. I just got to relax and be. I caught up on reading, I did several photoshoots (jumping on a bed is WAY harder than it looks, fyi), I took several long walks, I enjoyed cooking meals, I even enjoyed washing the dishes! Having a place to sit outside and relax was wonderful and all the nature sounds around me were so soothing.
Every Getaway cabin has this inside:
-fully stocked kitchen: pots, pans, dishes, silverware, tea kettle, knives, can opener, corkscrew, paper towels; salt, pepper, olive oil
-basket of food for purchase: coffee, tea, cookies, pasta, pasta sauce, jerky, candy, soup, oatmeal, hot chocolate, insect wipes, log bundle, kindling log
-fully stocked bathroom: towels, bath mat, toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, body wash
-a radio for tunes, since there is no wifi and very limited cell reception
-a mini fridge
-a mini library
-plenty of storage space for your bags
-a landline for emergencies or contacting Getaway for anything you might need
What is not in the cabin:
-freezer; so no ice or a way to keep things frozen
-coffee maker; there is a tea kettle for hot water, so you can make pour over coffee; you can also bring a small coffee maker as they have outlets in the cabin
-oven; yes, this may sound super diva of me, but I was not used to heating my food up via skillet, I’m more of a microwave person; they provide for you tin foil for cooking over the fire, but being a city gal, I’m not sure how to build a fire, so I did all of my cooking inside. Next time, I’m going to cook outside.
Aside from those very minor things, everything was perfect. As I mentioned above, Getaway provides a landline for you in case your phone has no reception and you need something or there is just an emergency in general. And they couldn’t have been nicer. They start communicating with you about a week before your trip via text, just to make sure you have all the details you need and all your questions answered.
Here is my takeaway from this beautiful place: it was the most enjoyable, relaxed vacation I have ever had and I can’t wait to go again! If there is anything you have questions about, please comment below or leave me a comment on Instagram. And below is a discount code for booking your first stay:
