I there is one thing that I have come to appreciate over the past few months, it’s a pair of comfortable, flat shoes. I’m not kidding when I say that even though I love my heels, I have been reaching for these flat shoes almost every day for work. They actually have a really funny back story.
So, back when I took my trip to Athens, I stopped to get gas on my way back home. Well, unfortunately, I wasn’t paying attention to nozzle and didn’t realize it was leaking gas everywhere. I started to replace the nozzle back into its cradle, when I saw it drip onto the top of my shoe. I literally froze and just stood there a moment.
The shoes I was wearing were a favorite pair and I really didn’t want to lose them. I also knew I couldn’t wear them in my car as they reeked of gas. So I grabbed a pair of socks ( I stupidly only packed one pair of shoes ), put them on, and threw my booties in the trunk.
I was planning on stopping in another town before I got home, so I really hoped there was somewhere I could buy another pair of shoes. I also wanted to eat lunch sitting in a restaurant, not speeding down the highway, so I began to search for places on my phone near Covington , the town I was going to visit.
My internet searches were fruitless for clothing places other than Atlanta, and I defiantly wasn’t going that far out of my way just for a pair of shoes. I headed into Convington, and there on my right, glowing like the light of a thousand suns, was a Ross. I have never been so happy to see a clothing store in all my life.
I decided to wear my gas shoes to launch, since I wouldn’t be able to smell them in a larger more open space, and because the weather was freezing, and then head to Ross and scope out the selection. I have to say, I kept getting so many funny looks from people as I stood next to my car, changing from my gas shoes, into a pair of giveaway heels I had in the backseat, and then into socks. I had a very nice routine going.
After lunch, I head and into Ross and looked through their collection of shoes. Unfortunately, with it being right after Christmas, they were picked clean. But, amongst the rumble of all the left behind, unwanted shoes, was a single pair of loafers, navy blue with tassels, sitting there, asking me to buy them.
I really debated whether or not I would ever wear these shoes again, but I honestly had no choice at this point, so I picked them up, bought them, and headed backout to my car. I then chucked my gas shoes back into the trunk and slipped on the new ones.
And instantly fell in love.
Those were the softest, the warmest, the most comfortable shoes I had ever put on and I couldn’t believe I had found them! I have literally worn those shoes at least a hundred times since buying thm and they are still in rotation as we speak. I have reached for those shoes more times than I can count.
So, today, I thought I would share some tips for styling loafers.
1. With jeans.
Pair them with jeans and a sweater for a more casual look.
2. For work.
They also work really well with office attire. Slip them on with a pair of slacks and a blazer.
3. Around the house.
These shoes make for the perfect slip on for just being around the house.
So, how do you style your loafers? Have you ever given them a try? Let me know in the comments!
